May was an awesome month because the weather in San Francisco was amazingly sunny and warm. I spent a lot of quality time with friends over lunch outside, chatting over some delicious food across the board with the exception of one awful meal where a poor lobster was killed for all the wrong reasons.
The best lunch I had last month was at Anchor & Hope, one of my favorite restaurants, and the worst lunch I had was at San Francisco Fish Company. You can bet that I will never go to that place again unless it's to buy fresh raw seafood. There's a more detailed review to come.
Here's a quick list of the new food and/or places that I've encountered, followed by reviews and photos:
- il Cane Rosso @ FERRY BUILDING, SF
- Anchor & Hope @ FiDi, SF
- Archive Kitchen & Bar @ FiDi, SF
- San Francisco Fish Company @ FiDi, SF
- La Fusion @ FiDi, SF
- Casey's Pizza @ FiDi, SF
- Super Duper Burger @ FiDi, SF

il Cane Rosso @ FERRY BUILDING, SF
This Curry Chicken Sandwich from il Cane Rosso was the second best lunch I had in May. The entire sandwich together is really tasty and satisfying. The chicken was nicely seasoned and not overwhelming with strong curry flavors. The arugula gave it an overall nice peppery kick. The Caesar Salad was delicious but has too strong of a dressing that I wouldn't recommend to enjoy by itself, instead you should have it with a sandwich pairing.
Anchor & Hope @ FiDi, SF
The best lunch was the dreamy Lobster Roll from Anchor & Hope, served with a large set of tater tots. I met up with some former co-workers who I haven't seen since 2012 - time sure has flown by! It was great to catch-up over a very nice lunch. If only I could eat here every single day without draining my piggy bank! The lobster was perfect and you can taste the natural juices and flavors of the fresh lobster, which is lightly seasoned. It was also light on the mayonnaise, which allows you to truly taste what the lobster has to offer. The slaw provided was nice and acidic - I really enjoyed it all together. The tater tots were incredible; super crispy on the outside and slightly mashed on the inside. It's my second time ordering the lobster roll. I look forward to visiting again frequently.
Archive Kitchen & Bar @ FiDi, SF
This place is a fairly new addition to the Financial District. It's a small but cozy place with lots of charm and friendly service. The bar is nice and they offer some good beers on tap. From their menu of pizzas and sandwiches, I opted for the Reuben Sandwich with Potato Chips. It was really nice and simple. I enjoyed the pickles they provided. I wonder if the chips were made in house - they tasted like plain ruffles, if so. I'm not complaining though. I'd go back here for a bite and drink but feel no rush to return.
San Francisco Fish Company @ FERRY BUILDING, SF
The worst lunch was a Lobster Roll from the San Francisco Fish Company located in the Ferry Building. Way to ruin what could've been a delicious lobster roll. While the amount of lobster given was reasonable, the lobster was drenched in mayo and was lacking heavily in salt. There was no brightness. It was overall really bland and wet. Unfortunately, my co-worker friend who never ate a lobster roll took a chance and ordered this to be disappointed as he was more impressed by the bread bun than the lobster contents. Did I mention that this lobster roll was around $20-something? Yikes, never again.
La Fusion @ FiDi, SF
La Fusion has become a favorite spot of mine. The service and turnaround is quick and friendly. The food is awesome. I go here for the Roasted Chicken, which is what I got again during this recent visit along with a side of Tacu-Tacu, a fried rice and bean cake. It was delicious! Since it was a friend's birthday, we also got an order of Ceviche Mixto and a Tres Leches Passion Fruit Cake, both were complete winners across our party of three.
Casey's Pizza Truck @ FiDi, SF
I had the Funghi Pie from Casey's Pizza. It consists of roasted shiitake mushrooms, thyme, garlic, mozzarella, grana padano, sea salt, and chili flakes. The pizza was a bit on the salty side but the flavors all worked really well together and turned out to be tasty. The crust is very thin and crispy with the occasional burnt sides. If I'm ever in the mood for a thin crust pizza, I'd turn again to Casey's Pizza Truck.
Super Duper Burger @ FiDi, SF
My office is located directly across from Super Duper Burger and it's a beautiful thing. The burgers are simple and tasty. I ordered the Mini Bacon Cheeseburger and the patty is seasoned well but a tad bit on the dry side - maybe it was a off-day? I do like this place and enjoyed my experience. I am curious about their Veggie Burgers, which I'll save for next time.
Proper Food @ FiDi, SF
